All Pet owners please be extra vigilant with ticks on your Dogs and Cats. It’s heartbreaking to see any animals affected by paralysis ticks.
Tick Infestation
When looking for a tick they have a hard dorsal plate in the shape of a fingernail and elongated mouthparts that have rows of backward-pointing teeth.
If left these ticks can be lethal to your dogs & cats, signs may include a change in voice, walking along and sitting down suddenly, excessive salivation, weakness in their back legs, vomiting, cough and change in breathing.
What if you find a tick?
If you suspect your pet may have a tick, then take your pet immediately to the Vet.
Tick Prevention
Examine your pet regularly, run your fingers through your cat or dog’s coat. It is common to find them around the head and neck and inside of their ears but they can be found on any part of the body. Don’t forget to search between their eyes and at the end of their nose.
Use a preventative treatment or combination of treatments on your pet (always check the label), these can include using a rinse, tick collar, tablet, sprays and back of the neck spot-on products. While using these products still remember to check your pet as the paralysis tick does become resistant to some insecticides. Ask your local Veterinarian which is the best product for your pet.
