How to Control Cane Toads

A Cane Toad can excrete a potent and rapidly acting toxin from glands around the neck area which is a little bit like a hallucinogenic drug. This poison it excretes is damaging to the heart and can be very toxic.

About the Cane Toad

Cane Toads were introduced into Australia in 1935 to control the beetles in the sugar cane plantations. They have now become a nightmare in Australia as they now eat large numbers of honey bees, prey on our fauna, spread diseases and poison our native frogs, their eggs and fishes. They also are poisonous to humans and animals.

Signs of Cane Toad Poisoning

In humans:

  • skin irritations
  • burning to the eyes or hands.

In animals:

  • Excess salivation
  • Rapid Heart Beat
  • Bright red and slimy gums
  • Pawing at the mouth.
  • Vomiting.
  • Muscle spasms.
  • Disorientation.
  • Shivers and/or tremors.
  • Convulsions or seizures.
  • Rapid or Irregular Heart Beat.
  • Death

How to control Cane Toads.

With in excess of 200 million Toads you need to take measures to protect your family and pets.

We suggest:

– Fence areas to stop them from getting in.
– Empty any bodies of water laying around for them to jump in.
– Covering any water outside such as a pool etc.
– Turning the lights off from around pools or ponds at night.
– Putting a bell on your pets to scare the toads from coming near them.
– Don’t let your pet outside at night.
– Use Hopstop.

Controlling Cane Toads in a humane way with Hopstop.

HOPSTOP won the Australasian Aerosol Industry Association’s ‘Innovation Award’, and ‘Best New Product’ award. It anesthetizes toads within seconds and kills them humanely in 30 ‐ 60 minutes. Toads are physically unmarked by the treatment and do not display unacceptable physical signs of distress or trauma as a consequence of treatment.

D-Tec Pest Solutions has Hopstop on board with them, ask for a can at your next general pest service or contact us on 1300725756.
